The Soul Question That Changes Today

Transcript

It's somewhere past midnight and you're awake. Not anxious exactly — just awake. The lamp is on. There's a small notebook on the nightstand, the kind you keep close because you're the kind of person who tracks things: what you ate, what you skipped, what you're trying to build. And tonight, without planning it, a question has moved into the room. What happens to me when I die? Not as a crisis. More like a presence. The notebook is right there, and you could write it down, but the pen hasn't moved yet. Because this question is different from the ones you usually track. It doesn't fit in a habit column. It doesn't have a two-week check-in. Think of it this way: if something of you continues after death, then the choices you're making right now — the ones you log, the ones you avoid, the ones you make at midnight when no one is watching — those choices might be shaping something that outlasts the body. And if nothing continues, if this life is the whole gift, then those same choices are the only record that will ever exist of who you were. Either way, today matters. Either way, the notebook means something. The pen hasn't moved yet. But before you write anything, there's a prior question worth sitting with — what kind of being are you, exactly, that this question even lands?
